M&E Contractor Reports 23% Revenue Jump

The Telford-headquartered contractor turned over £206.7m in the 12 months to 31 March 2023, up from £167.5m a year earlier. The company ranked 85th in the CN100 last year but would have placed 76th based on its most recent revenue figure.

The family-owned contractor provides mechanical and electrical engineering services (M&E) to the social housing, defence, education, commercial, health and utilities sectors, as well as undertaking maintenance and refurbishment for housing associations and local authorities.

Dodd Group made a £3.5m profit in its past financial year, up from £2.7m a year earlier. Its margin therefore crept up from 1.6 to 1.7 per cent.

Thomas Mark Dodd, a director at Dodd Group, said: “The construction division has continued to secure sizeable projects generating both repeat business with existing clients and foster[ing] beneficial relationships with new customers.

“The year under review continued to be impacted by challenging inflationary and supply issues, both of which eroded construction margins on fixed-price contracts.”

He added: “Planned and reactive maintenance has continued in the form of long-term partnerships with local authorities and utilities providers. The defence services division has progressed with long-term contracts providing infrastructure services on various Ministry of Defence bases.”

Dodd Group is based in Shropshire but has offices across the UK, including in Greater Manchester, Tonbridge, Birmingham, Southampton, Plymouth and Norwich. The company employed an average of 977 staff last year, up from 850 a year earlier.
